Ms. Kaplan is a finance and art law attorney. Her practice has focused on a broad range of structured finance transactions, including asset and mortgage backed financings, cross-border receivables backed transactions, CLOs and art-related financings. Ms. Kaplan also represents artists, collectors, galleries, museums and non-profit institutions in a wide range of transactions.
Ms. Kaplan is a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School and teaches courses on Law and Finance of the Art Market and Ethics in the Visual Arts. She also teaches at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. For the past ten years Ms. Kaplan has chaired the Board of Aperture Foundation, a leading nonprofit publisher supporting photography, founded by prominent artist-photographers. She also chairs the Board of Visitors at Columbia Law School, co-chairs the Photography Committee of The Whitney Museum of American Art and serves on the Boards of the Yale University Art Gallery, where she chairs the Nominating Committee, and the Bronx Council on the Arts. While at Sidley Austin Ms. Kaplan curated the firm’s art collection.
In 2022, Ms. Kaplan was honored by The New York Law Journal with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her accomplishments and impact on the legal community and the practice of law over the course of her career.
